We at DelhiByFoot have a motto to not just showcase hidden cultural or historical gems like the oldest extant fort of Delhi, Tughlaqabad, or legacies of Sufi masters like Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia, or the spectacular Red Fort and city of Shajahanabad but also walk the jungles and green spaces of Delhi in our attempt to bring forth the bounties of nature that our city has been bestowed with.
1. ASOLA BHATTI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY – IN SEARCH OF LOST LAKES IN DELHI
After years of indiscriminate mining, the Aravallis near Delhi NCR, an area bounded between the three sides of Delhi in North-east, Gurgaon in North-west and Faridabad in south, has recently been spared any further scars by the orders of the Honourable Supreme Court of India. Now those hollows and depressions left by the massive earth-excavator machines have filled up with water from natural water aquifers, ground-water springs and monsoonal rains. A series of such water bodies form a beautiful natural spectacle of 4 hidden lakes just 10 minutes from the Surajkund Mela Grounds and approachable with a 4 Km easy trek through grasslands and jungle paths.

Delhi has in recent times seen a lot of awareness and action in the search of birds like the once-common Sparrows, Jungle Babblers, Kites, Bulbuls, Parakeets, Shovelers, Eurasian Kingfishers, Peacocks and many more. Asola, Okhla, Bhalaswa, Sanjay Jheel, Sanjay Van and Garhi Mandu are some of the places in vicinity of the city and for the die-hard Birding enthusiasts we at DBF have also organised short trips to the nearest Bird’s Paradise at Bharatpur, 200Kms away from Delhi.
