By the light of the soft glow of the pale White full moon, overlooking Delhi's own White Lotus, the white architectural wonder of #lotustemple, excellent discussions with our participants on alternate tales of Indian Mythology unfolded yesterday evening. We had an overwhelming response despite rising concerns of Covid19 fears. We thank all of you for joining!!

Never knew that my cursory interest in Delhi's stories would become a life-long association & turn into this beautiful community, a labour-of-love DelhiByFoot, Adventures Unlimited!!!

It's thanks to all you participants who as they walked with us, encouraged us, taught us and in a city which had almost no culture of Heritage Walks/Events, helped us pioneer new ideas to implement & endear us to you all... Thank you DBF community!

Join us in welcoming the colors of spring! Happy Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja to all our DBFWallas....a celebration of the onset of spring...Basanti or Spring colours dominate today.
In Bengal, this lovely festival is celebrated with much enthusiasm in every household especially the kids, teens & young adults who bring out their books of knowledge, tools of learning like pens & copies (maybe in today's era their Tabs/Phones!)to pray and seek blessings of 'Maa Saraswati' as 'She' is the Goddess of Learning/Knowledge.
Punjab celebrates with prayers, langars and kite flying.
In Delhi we have a lovely tradition that began 700 years ago, as the Dargah-e-Nizamuddin celebrates a 'Sufi Basant'...and erupts in a colourful yellow hued musical Qawwalis & processions with marigold, chrysanthemum flower petals being strewn & thrown up in the air. All Chisti silsila dargahs in India celebrate Sufi Basant in this manner, an eg. of India's synctretic & diverse yet uniquely rich cultural heritage. (Pics 5-10)
Overall Basant's theme is bright colours, love and harmony with nature.

Chasing the Wolf Moon... January's full moon is often called the Wolf Moon, as people heard wolves howling more often during this time of the year.
Long howls by packs of wolves to define territory, locate pack members, reinforce social bonds & gather for hunting in the coldest of Jan month would lend a very other-worldly feeling to the people living in forests of Europe & North America, millennia ago...and thus maybe the name.
Whatever be it, chasing 2021's first full moon today evening from our resort in the hills of "Ajodhya", in Purulia district of Bengal on a night trek to a Adivasi (Tribal) village was interesting.

#5-9 is from my last Amritsar Golden Temple visit. The most famous & holiest Sikh shrine, Harmandir Sahib Gurudwara or Golden Temple, at Amritsar shines at any time of the day due to its picture perfect reflections on the sarovar waters! Devotees take a holy dip, golden orbs & domed section on roof of the Durbar Sahib hall of Golden Temple.

As the sun came out today, on Maha Shashti, millions around the world prepared to welcome the Goddess amidst us for the 5 days of the annual Durga Puja festival, part of the Divine Mother's 10-day autumnal festivities.
Each year we at DBF organise Durga Idol making & cultural events and Durga Puja Pandal visits, yet this year as the pandemic rages, none of the pujas are happening in Delhi barring a few exceptions and most of Dilliwallas are at home doing our small pujas in our own personal ways.
At home even though we have a Durga figurine in the prayer area, yet mom thought why don't we add a new painting to the prayer area and Dad immediately made this in the morning for the ritual worship over next 5 days....
This is our way, what's been your way Dilliwallas to welcome the Goddess!

May the Goddess bless us all with good health, love & peace.
