Winter Magic in Delhi
These weeks of winter weather turns our city’s many heritage & eccentric flavours even more attractive!
From a millennia when the ground shook to the resounding beat of thousands of horses being led into battle by medieval-era Rajput chieftain Prithviraj Chouhan, to being the capital city of the significant Mamluk (Slave) Dynasty of India who built the Qutub Minar in Mehrauli, through the Mughals to the British revenge of 1857 and till the painful upheavals of partition in 1947…..Mehrauli has seen it all !!!
Mehrauli, as recorded in various sources on Delhi’s history, is surely the oldest, continuously inhabited area of our glorious city and has been the mute witness of the rise and fall of all dynasties and empires in Delhi for nearly a 1000 years.
DelhiByFoot will take you on a tryst with ancient royalty, a melting-pot of cultures, painful destruction & the peaceful calm of spiritual masters of yore….
Feel a ‘time-machine’ like experience as you walk through multiple layers of history that co-exist peacefully in this jumbled-up mass of narrow streets, bazaars & monuments. Add a zing to your step as you pick up raw tobacco for a Hubble-Bubble (Hookah/Sheesha) or buy a newly sharpened hunter’s knife from one of the shops in the colourful Mehrauli bazaars. Or take a quick dip into the pool of Sufi mystical spiritual teachings of “Humanity” giving some clues to maybe what’s the secret of Mehrauli’s legendary endurance and how it sustained itself without any of the numerous empires ever abandoning it!
The story-telling sessions will be done in English.
